A Different Day....

Last night I was down. We were down. Following the show was a quiet dinner at Denny’s. It was good that we hung out, sure. But it was a bad night for SPW.

Today, however, was a positive day. Instead of camp we met up with El Flaco Loco, who educated us on promoting and the use of facebook. And we brainstormed….as we watched Raw as a group. Following that we went out to dinner. And laughed. And had fun. And got stared at. You know what? SPW is going to be ok. After when we are done being ok we are going to be good. And after that we will be outstanding.

On a different note….

I will never really understand why people go out of their way to let me know that other people hate me. I don’t care. People are going to think and feel whatever they think and feel. I have more than enough trouble controlling what I think and feel without worrying about how others view me. I am trying to be the best me I can be.

On a third note….

always interesting when facebook tells you that you may know somebody you used to know. What I mean by this is when you discover you are no longer somebodies friend because FB tells you.

Oh, and….

I ate WAY too much at dinner.

So times you just need to let it all out. You need to stand exposed, naked, for the world to see. And, to me, that is the point of a blog. A place were you can let it all out. So…..

On Friday a new company in Norcal drew 500 or so people. Today my company, my home, my life, drew the worst crowd we have ever drawn. And this pisses me off. Not because somebody else drew 500 because really I wish every company could draw like that, but because my crew works so hard and the wrestlers are way too fucking good to work in front of crowds that small.

Biff, Tiff, Kitty, Skott, Joe, Wilbur, Jamie….. they make it worth walking the aisle even if nobody else is in the building. 500 people…. 5 people. I love to wrestle and I want to wrestle. I live to wrestle. However I cannot possible keep my company alive if we do not turn things around attendance wise.

Tonight a former Olympian wrestled a former ECW tag team champion. Rock Legend Scum wrestled Drake freaking Younger. THOSE MATCHES need to be seen.

In the opening promo my ear got split open and I bled well. And my ankle was killing me, meaning that my main event was even more challenging then normal. Last month Bobby and I had the matches of our lives and as much as we love facing each other neither of us really wanted to try to top it this month. Neither of us could figure out how to even attempt such a thing. And I only had one leg. The crowd was tiny. I didn’t even bother to PUT MY FUCKING GEAR ON (and that will haunt me for years to come).

So here I sit, in pain, pissed off at myself for not knowing how to fix this. How to turn things around. This roster….the wrestlers of Norcal deserve better.

And yes, I know my detractors are laughing at me because of tonight’s show. Fine. There are people that want me to fine. Fine. But here is the thing…. I need to succeed. Not for my ego. Not for me at all. For Biff, Tiff, Kitty, Wilbur, Skott, Jamie, and every fucking wrestler out there that has any desire to walk the aisle in SPW. I owe it to all of them.

One more thing…. and this is true of every company out there… if you are a wrestler and are booked to be on a show it is your JOB to draw. That is why bookers higher you. IF you make no effort to draw then why should you get booked. It is on ALL Of us to help every where we work get better and stronger. Some people seem of have forgotten this. Or never learned it.

Ok, I admit that last paragraph may have been a bit out of place…but I am rambling at this point and really only two or three people are still with me.

Tonight sucked. I am hurting mentally and physically….but sitting at Denny’s when all the works was done, with my brothers and sisters…. yeah… life is good because even on an awful day I can have a good night.

And here is the thing…. there are good things on the horizon if we just keep fighting. I can’t talk about stuff yet but we have the potential to really do something….. we just need to be ready and able to rock and roll when the time comes.

Imagine my shock when my friend Josh (aka Sir Samurai) mentioned that he was reading the recent book by UFC fighter (and fellow Sacramento native) Urijah Faber and was surprised to find my name on the back of it. I reviewed Urijah’s book when it was first released, but had no idea that they used a quote from my review as a blurb. My shock turned into pure excitement when Josh sent me this picture of the back cover and I realized that not only is my name on Urijah’s book, but it is prominently placed (to say the least) and plugs Dead Presidents, too! How cool is that?!

Next time you’re at a bookstore, grab yourself a copy the newly-released paperback edition of Urijah Faber’s The Laws of the Ring, find my name on the back, and get excited!

Like everybody else I like to fantasize about being rich. Winning money.

My big dream is to get a building that I could run the SPW Training Academy out of and do shows there as well, with an apartment so I could live there.

But tonight, that isn’t what is on my mind. Tonight I am thinking about a different dream. If I struck it rich… I would have a social life. I wouldn’t have to wait tables every freaking night I am not wrestling. I would be able to go to birthday parties. I would go see live music. I would go to movies with other people. Eat meals with other people. If I was rich… I would have a social life. But we all know, the path I am on…. I will never be rich.

Let the 5700 who didn’t cross the finish line run the Boston Marathon in 2014

Approximately 5,700 Boston Marathoners had our dream cut short by the terrible acts of April 15th. We were not able to experience the exhilaration that only crossing the finish line can bring. The most exciting day of our lives turned out to be the scariest. We were lucky that we hadn’t quite made it to the finish and therefore were safe from harm. However, we will forever carry emotional scars from those horrifying moments.

The Boston Athletic Association (BAA), the organization in charge of running the Marathon, is providing those of us who didn’t get a chance to finish the race with a finisher’s medallion and an estimated finishing time. We are certainly appreciative of these efforts, but we feel our journey is not complete. We worked hard to get to the finish line and greet our families with tears of joy. Now we cannot say we accomplished our goals. Instead we have to say we almost finished.

That’s why I’m asking the Boston Athletic Association, as well as the Cities of Boston and Newton and towns of Hopkinton, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, and Brookline, to grant the 5,700 of us automatic entry into the 2014 Boston Marathon. We are not asking for a free spot, simply a guaranteed entry. The leadership of the BAA has mentioned that they are considering their options on this issue, so let’s send a unified message together.

We respectfully ask that a Wave Four be created so that we may run with our brothers and sisters in solidarity and healing. We want to be able to finish what we started. We want to do it with one another. We want to be able to say that we completed the Boston Marathon.

A petition has been started to help allow the 5700 runners who never got to finish the Boston Marathon run it again this next year if they choose to. Often runners only get one shot at competing in the marathon in their lives due to how hard it is to get into the race. Support this petition to urge the Boston Marathon organizers to allow the 5700 to have another shot. - Thorne Performance
